This session is designed to showcase two research projects that have been completed by faculty within the Contemporary Educator Program (CEP) - see below.
Topic 1 - Increasing Opportunities: Addressing Medical Laboratory Shortages through Integrated curriculum (Jeremy Koscik) Examining the disconnect between educational programs and industry requirements. This project seeks to understand the gap between curricula and the evolving needs of medical laboratory professions, as well as the college's plan to close this gap.
Topic 2 - Chemistry and Indigenous Culture Mona will present on 'Chemistry and Indigenous Culture': Indigenous culture is very rich in many aspects, and it has been verbally communicated through generations. This technique of passing down knowledge and teachings was done through storytelling and spiritual teachings. Chemistry is an interesting, sophisticated science that is being challenged and modified constantly. Can these two contrasting fields intersect at certain point? This is what will be discussed in this session, in a trial to weave the indigenous ways of knowing and being as well as the indigenous learning outcomes into chemistry courses in SLC. *This scholarship is being shared in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the Contemporary Educator Program (CEP).
