Learning Connections Conference 2024

At SLC, one of the many ways that we are investing in our creative future(s) is through Research and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). As Educational Developers in SoTL, we are collaboratively building infrastructure to support SoTL advancement within our institution over the next few years. As a first step to inform our work internally, we looked externally to describe the current landscape of SoTL activities across the college sector, beginning with an environmental scan of Ontario College publicly facing websites. In conducting our environmental scan, we aimed to answer the following questions: (1) What does SoTL currently look like in Colleges across Ontario? (2) Who are leading SoTL initiatives? (3) How are Ontario Colleges engaging stakeholders in SoTL? (4) What are the most common SoTL initiatives across Ontario Colleges? (5) What key literature/evidence is being cited to inform SoTL practice? Locally, our findings will inform decisions about the development of SoTL frameworks, supports, and programming, and opportunities for networking and learning from our counterparts. Next steps could include expanding our search to describe SoTL activity across a sampling of colleges nationally. While it is not our intent to compare SoTL activity across colleges and universities, analysis of our descriptive data may yield future questions about SoTL advancement specifically for the college context.
