This session studies the effectiveness of traditional academic accommodations versus coaching. This session will cover the use of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles in curriculum design and evaluation methods for adult learners with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in meeting course learning outcomes. Participants will be introduced to the theoretical concepts and identified benefits and disadvantages of traditional academic accommodations versus coaching UDL principles in assisting adult learners with ADHD to meet learning outcomes. Participants will break into small groups and participate in activities designed to simulate a learners' experience when educators take responsibility for inclusive education in curriculum design and evaluation methods compared to the learners' current experience with traditional accommodations. We will examine which is more effective and helpful for the learner with ADHD to meet their learning outcomes. *This scholarship is being shared in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the Contemporary Educator Program (CEP).
